Etna eruption May 30, 2019

Etna returns to show. As a matter of fact, few hours ago, Etna shows a new eruption from the south east crater.

The INGV has measured an increase in the explosive and effusive activity on the eastern side of the volcano starting at 3:35 am this night. The video surveillance cameras recorded the opening of an effusive mouth at the base of the new south east crater with the emission of a lava flow on the summit.

The photo you find on this page was taken from this morning and shows one of the volcano’s moments of activity.
Strombolian activity is recorded at the new south east crater (NCSE). The fractures that arose from the eruptive event that occurred during the night are feeding two lava flows (see INGV thermal photo) that flow into the Valle del Bove.

One on the Monte Simone side, at an altitude of around 2000 mt. The other one on the Centenary Mountains at an altitude of 2100 mt. We also report a slight fall in ash on the city of Taormina.
